Endemic to Western Australia, marron is the third largest freshwater crayfish in the world – and one of the state's great delicacies. At Bangadang Farm, our dams are home to marron, and we are working to understand the ecology of growing them in dams – restoring habitat, supporting natural breeding cycles and exploring a more considered approach to growing this remarkable local species.
The Marron Project is our attempt to revive dam farming and, in time, help double Western Australia's marron – rethinking how a delicacy is grown, from the water up.
